Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan Can Be a Reliable Supplier of Gas to Europe for Hundred Years
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on November 11 in an interview with the Hungarian national television said Azerbaijan for a hundred years can be a reliable supplier of natural gas to Europe.
"... We have large energy reserves. Our proven gas reserves are minimal at 2.5 trillion cubic meters and will be even more, as we are still conducting exploration. Even this figure is enough to be a reliable source of gas for European consumers, at least for a hundred years," said Aliyev.
According to him, Azerbaijan has put a lot of effort to supply these resources to the European market. Some members of the European Union receive 40 percent of their oil from Azerbaijan.
Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan is now implementing the Southern Gas Corridor, which will completely redraw the energy map of Europe. "Less than two months ago, i.e. in September, we launched a grand project of the Southern Gas Corridor. The work has already begun. This project will allow Azerbaijan to establish contacts with many European countries, and create a new, modern distribution system," said the President.
The President of Azerbaijan for the first time spoke about the future possibilities of the gas export system that is created now. "We will create a distribution system through which it will be possible to transport 50 billion cubic meters of gas," said Aliyev.
"At the same time, as you know, projects are considered that will connect with each other pipelines between European countries. I think that here we need to hold close coordination work and maintain a balance of interests between producers, such as Azerbaijan, transit countries and consumer countries. This is a project of energy security and diversification. Without energy security it is difficult to ensure physical security, as these issues are interrelated," said the President of Azerbaijan. -12D--
