In 2013 Turkey extracted 2.4 million tons of oil and 555 million cub.m. of natural gas on its own territory, RIA Novosti quoted the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources as saying on Monday.

Last year 50 companies (26 local ones and 24 with foreign capital) were involved in exploration of onshore and offshore oil and gas fields. 168 wells have been drilled, up 6% against 2012. Of those wells 42 ones produced oil and 5 ones natural gas. 

In 2013 investments in to the exploration and production of oil and gas totaled $952 million. Investments of the Turkish State Oil and Gas Corporation TPAO comprised half of this sum. In 2013 local oil and gas production in Turkey allowed saving $2.3 billion as a part of their import. 

About 10,000 people are employed in the oil and gas industry of Turkey.—0—
