Lithuanian and Azerbaijani presidents reached energy cooperation agreement
On November 28, 2013 Lithuanian Premier Algirdas Butkyavichus met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who has arrived in Vilnius to attend the Eastern Partnership summit.
Lithuanian President said that Azerbaijan is an important partner of the European Union and the cooperation must be strengthened on the basis of mutual interests, paying a special attention to energy and trade.
Butkyavichus expressed confidence that signing of the agreement on Azerbaijan’s association with EU will place the relationships between Azerbaijan and Brussels to the new level. “Azerbaijan and Lithuania have very active ties, trade turnover and investments between them grow. Lithuania is also interested in the energy cooperation,” Lithuanian government’s press office quoted Butkyavichus as saying.
Ilham Aliyev agreed that energy safety issues are very important and agreed to cooperation in this area.
The Eastern Partnership summit will take place in Vilnius on November 28-29, 2013.—0-
