More than half of the legal entities registered in Azerbaijan in Baku
From the beginning of the year, there have been registered in Azerbaijan 1,948 legal persons and the activities of 93 have been ceased. This means that, as of April 1, 2013 the total number of entities in the country was 80,814 (+2.3% compared with January 1).
In the country there are mostly repairers, as well as wholesalers and retailers with legal status - 22,117, followed by builders (9,025) and the collectors of agricultural products (9,022).
Processing companies are 5,266, financiers and insurers - 1,402, brokers and realtors - 812, employed administrative and support services - 2,983. The ICT sector employs 1,751 legal entities, while healing and entertaining are 1,329. In all the areas gross gain is observed.
Private enterprises are 63,792 (78.9%) legal entities, state run are 9,240 (11.4%), municipal - 1,756 (2.2%). In addition, there are companies with foreign (4,517 or 5.6%) and mixed (1,509 or 1.9%) capital.
The number of entrepreneurs with the status of an individual has also risen - by April 1 there were registered 442,143 persons (+2.3% as of 1 January). They are mostly wholesalers and retailers - 173 953, drivers and warehouse staff - 73,484. In the field of small household services there are employed 60,510 people, rural loggers are 54,320, and others are much fewer.
More than half of legal persons (53.08%) were recorded in Baku - 42,899. But in the regions, there are most of the entrepreneurs - 63.6% or 160 724 people. -17D-

Osman Gunduz, head of the NGO Multimediya, has renewed calls for the Information and Communication Technologies Agency (İKTA) to spearhead the creation of a Milli İnternet Mübadilə Mərkəzi (National Internet Exchange Centre) in collaboration with key local providers Azertelecom, Delta Telecom, AzTelekom, and global industry leaders.
