Nakhchivan population received about 0.5 bn AZN of revenue
Within four months of this year incomes of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (about 440,000 people) increased by 2.8 %, compared with the same period in 2013, by 2.8 % and amounted to 448.1 million manats. According to estimates of the Statistical Department of NAR, per capita income in the autonomy in the first four months of the year was 1,028 AZN or 257 manat per month. According to the State Statistics of Azerbaijan, in the whole country the income amounted to 327.7 manat YTD.
Comparative analysis and comparison with other economic indicators have questioned the level of welfare of NAR. According to the statistical study of households in 2013, the average income of the population in the autonomy was 219.7 manats per capita, 5 manats more than the national average. Most of all income was received from different sources by Baku residents: studies revealed revenues at around 240 manats a month.
The same study found that only 26.8 % of the NAR has revenues in excess of 200 manat. In Baku, the figure was 43%. Residents of Nakhchivan had bank deposits of 5,071,000 manat as of January 1, 2014, decreasing by 20% in the past year. This is considerably fewer than in the whole country: bank deposits as of April 1 of this year exceeded 6.7 billion manat.
Local sources say that almost all the business in the NAR is concentrated in the hands of the Talybovs - the ruling family of the autonomous republic. The Head of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov controls businesses by his sons (Rza and Seymour) and four companions from Turkey. This includes the holdings Gemiqaya, Design, Neqsicahan and Cahan. Opposition members say that half of the population does not live in the Nakhchivan territory and has left for Baku or the neighboring countries to find jobs. -08B-
