Report on Creation of Free Trade Zone in Alat
Baku / 23.05.17 / Turan: A report on the creation of a free trade zone in Alat prepared by an international expert was presented in the Baku Business Center on May 23.
The report was compiled by the company Economic Zones World FZE. This document, in addition to the concept of the FTZ Master Plan, also covers the draft law On Free Zones and provides a comparative analysis of international experience in the creation of such zones.
The Alat FTZ will be established on the territory of the new Baku International Sea Trade Port. The Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev said that after the completion of the first stage of the port construction, Azerbaijan"s transit cargo transshipment capacity will reach 15 million tons per year.
The decision on the establishment of the Alat FTZ was made in March 2016. The work in this direction has not reached the design stage yet. -----08D

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
