Samir Sharifov: Distributors of Water and Electricity Cannot Be Given Financial Freedom
The Azerbaijani government has recognized the social inefficiency of tariffs for water and electricity.
The Minister of Finance of Azerbaijan Samir Sharifov said during the discussion of the draft state budget for 2016 and the next three years at a joint session of parliamentary committees that the relevant government structures cannot provide a return on the funds allocated to them from the state budget, so "the Cabinet in the next year should take more effective measures to ensure the return of debts."
"Many government agencies receive funding from the state budget, but it should be taken into account that some of them should not be given sufficient financial freedom. As for state-owned enterprises in the water and energy sectors, the rates for their services are determined by the Tariff Council of Azerbaijan. We do not want to create problems of high tariffs for the population, so we conduct a cautious tariff policy," he said. --17D-
