Scant progress report on privatization
The State Committee on Property Issues, the seller of state assets in Azerbaijan (with the exception of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic), presented a report on the progress of privatization in the first half of this year. The scant information reflects only some summary figures and is silent about the existing problems.
For the six months of this year, there were privatized 490 small businesses, facilities, and vehicles. Contrary to the rules of evaluation units to be privatized, in most cases, the evaluation is carried out not by the market value and the net book value of the property is virtual. All objects are privatized at a starting price. At the auction for the sale of state property there is no competition. In the privatization of state property the capabilities of electronic treatment of applicants is not used.
The Chamber of Accounts, which controls the cash flows from the privatization of state property, has never provided information on control measures for this sphere. -0-

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
