Trial Trains on Georgian Section of BTK
The work on the Georgian section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway is nearing completion. According to CJSC Azerbaijani Railways, locomotives operating on diesel fuel have already been run in a testing mode. They can move all the way unimpeded.
Recently at the Akhalkalaki station an approbation was held for the shift of a freight wagon from the 1,520 mm standard to the narrow-gauge Turkish railway of 1,435 mm.
There was also an experiment of passing a multi-ton container from car to car by a 40-ton crane.
Construction of the railway Baku-Tbilisi-Kars started in 2007. Start-up of the road is expected in the first half of 2017. -03D-
