Major Accident in Azerbaijan"s Power System
Baku/04.07.18/ Turan: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order yesterday on the establishment of the State Commission in connection with the accident that happened on the night of the second to third July at one of the substations of the LLC Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant.
First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov was appointed chairman of the commission.
On the evening of July 3, a new failure occurred in the country's power system.
The main cause of the accident, according to the Ministry of Energy's primary estimates, was the opening of the substation, which disrupted the normal operation of the entire power plant.
According to the Ministry of Energy, these problems were caused by abnormal heat and increased electricity consumption. As a result, the whole of Azerbaijan was left without light for several hours. Currently, repairs are being carried out at the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant.
As a result, the energy supply of 39 cities and regions of Azerbaijan was terminated, including Baku and Ganja.
In Azerbaijan in recent days, anomalous heat was established: the air temperature exceeded 40 degrees.
The accident on the energy system of Azerenerji violated the regime of SOCAR enterprises.
"In connection with the accident in the power system of Azerbaijan, the state of the land works of the State Oil Company was temporarily disrupted. In addition, due to the interruption of power supply in an emergency mode, the compressor stations of the Gas Export Administration stopped operating, as well as the Baku Refinery, the enterprises of the Azerkimya Production Association and the Azerbaijan Gas Processing Plant," the company said.
According to SOCAR, with the restoration of power supply in the early hours of Tuesday, underground gas storage facilities, compressor stations of the Gas Export Administration, installations at Baku Refinery and at Azerkimya plants have gradually restored their work.
The accident in the power system of Azerbaijan led to the fact that Azerenerji JSC addressed neighboring countries about import of electricity.
"From 23:45 Monday we supply electricity to Azerbaijan within the framework of the agreement on emergency mutual assistance, 200 MW is delivered," the message of the Russian company Inter RAO says.
After the accident happened at the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant, Georgia exports electricity to Azerbaijan. According to the State Electricity System of Georgia, the electricity supply to Azerbaijan was 64 megawatts on Tuesday.
In addition, Azerbaijan suspended the export of electricity to Iran in connection with the accident at the thermal power station in Mingachevir. According to the head of the press service of Azerenerji OJSC Yahya Babanli, according to the agreement signed in April between Azerenerji and TAVANIR, from June 1 Azerenerji started exporting electricity to the Iranian regions of Mugan and Astara. Transmission power reached 80 MW.
According to statistics, Azerenerji JSC in January-May 2018 exported electricity in general for $ 52.9 million. -0-
