Armed Attack on Head of City of Ganja (updated)
The attack on the head of the Executive Power of Ganja Elmar Veliyev and his bodyguard Gasym Shahbazov was committed in front of the city administration building on July 3 at about 20.30.
This is stated in a joint statement of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service.
An unknown person opened fire at Veliyev and Shahbazov with firearms, as a result of which they were hospitalized with various degrees of severity. The shooter was detained and disarmed by the police in the territory. He is a resident of Ganja, Yunis Safarov, born in 1983.
The Prosecutor General's Office launched a criminal case under art. 29, 120.2.3 (attempt to kill two or more persons), 120.2.7 (attempt to deliberately kill a person performing official duties) and 228 (illegal carrying of weapons) of the Criminal Code.
An investigation team was created from the staff of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Committee.
The health of Veliyev and Shahbazov is satisfactory, and both are provided with qualified medical care.
According to some media reports, Veliyev was transported by helicopter to Baku. --0---

Armed Attack on Head of Ganja
Baku / 03.07.18 / Turan: In the evening on Tuesday an armed attack was carried out on the head of the Ganja Executive Power Elmar Veliyev and his guard. Both were hospitalized with gunshot wounds. The information was confirmed for Turan by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office. An official report on this fact is expected in the near future.
Elmar Veliyev is the brother of the Military Prosecutor of the country Khanlar Veliyev.
