The Ecuadorian authorities have introduced a regime of internal armed conflict in the country due to the deterioration of the security situation after the escape from prison of the leader of the Los Choneros criminal group. Riots broke out in the country's prisons, and unrest began throughout the country. According to the latest data, at least 13 people have already become victims of the unrest.
Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa declared a state of emergency in the country to establish order in prisons. According to him, the government “will not negotiate with terrorists” and “will not rest until it returns peace to the Ecuadorians.”
The head of state ordered the neutralization of 22 criminal groups. Ecuador's armed forces called criminal gangs legitimate military targets, and parliament promised the security forces an amnesty for possible abuse of power.
Leaders of countries on the continent, including Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia and Venezuela, expressed support for the authorities of the republic. At the same time, calls were made for consolidation in the fight against drug crime. Spain condemned acts of violence by bandits.
