It is reported about the fire and the arrival of rescue ships in the area of deployment of the ship, which may indicate that the frigate has lost its course.
According to unconfirmed information, as early as April 3, the Admiral Essen was fired upon by the Neptune missile system with one missile, which was detected by the ship's air defense only on approach, but was hit at a short distance. Fragments of an anti-ship missile caused damage, and the ship left the area of the operation.

Baku/06.05.22/Turan: An explosion followed by combustion occurred on board the Russian project 11356R frigate Burevestnik type which is near the Zmeiniy island, the Odessa newspaper "Dumskaya" reports.
It became known about the emergency yesterday from social networks. "Today, however, we received confirmation that such an incident really happened," the newspaper writes.
Russian aviation is now circling over this area of the Black Sea water area, rescue ships came to the aid of the ship from the occupied Crimea.
It is not yet clear which of the three frigates of this type in the Russian Black Sea fleet was damaged and what caused the emergency situation with the occupants.
Note that circumstances of another failure of the Russian fleet are being clarified, reports Dumskaya.
According to preliminary information, the ship was hit by the Ukrainian PKM Neptun.
The Russian Black Sea fleet consists of three project 11356R Burevestnik frigates: the Admiral Grigorovich, the Admiral Essen and the Admiral Makarov which became operational in 2016-2017. According to the NATO codification - Krivak V - a series of Russian multipurpose frigates of the 2nd rank with guided missile armament of near-, far-sea and ocean-going zones.
The core of the strike missile armament of these frigates is made of 3S14 universal launchers using Kalibr cruise missiles. Each frigate has eight missile launching cells.-0-
