A new meeting in Baku between the chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation and the commander of NATO forces in Europe

Baku/01.02.20/Turan: Next week, a meeting will be held in Baku between the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Army General Valery Gerasimov, and General Tod Walters, Commander-in-Chief of the NATO Armed Forces in Europe.

This was reported by the Moscow newspaper Kommersant, citing sources at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Among the topics of discussion are the military exercises being prepared this year in Russia and NATO countries, as well as the situation around Syria and Afghanistan.

The previous meeting of the two military took place on July 10, 2019. She also went to Baku. As the RF Ministry of Defense reported then, Valery Gerasimov and Todd Walters discussed possible measures to prevent incidents on the Russia-NATO contact line, exchanged views on the situation in European and global security, as well as on the prospects for resuming the dialogue of military experts. In addition, issues related to the fight against terrorism and maritime piracy, the situation in Afghanistan and Syria were raised.

Last December, Tod Walters told reporters: "Our previous conversation with Gerasimov was very constructive, and I look forward to the next conversation, which will take place in early 2020." He explained that such meetings discuss global issues of conflict resolution in the air, sea, space, cyberspace, both in Europe and on a global scale, Walters noted. -02D-
