Activist of South Azerbaijan National Movement accuses Iranian regime
Baku/18.09.19/Turan: One of the leaders of the popular movement for the rights of the Azerbaijani population of Iran (South Azerbaijan) Abbas Lisani accused the Tehran regime of violating the rights of ethnic Azerbaijanis.
According to sources in Iran, at a trial in the city of Ardabil, Abbas Lisani accused the prosecutor and judge of national discrimination.
This happened in the Ardabil Court of Appeal after the prosecutor demanded to increase the 8-year term of Lisani"s arrest imposed on him by the court of first instance.
In his last words, Lisani said he would not give up his position even if he is executed. "You have been suppressing the rights of Azerbaijanis for more than 100 years, and this discrimination caused the discontent of the people. Azerbaijan with or without us will become free anyway," he said.
Abbas Lisani was repeatedly condemned by the Iranian authorities for the struggle for the national and cultural rights of ethnic Azerbaijanis.
