ADR Calls on US Congress Not to Pass Amendments to Law on State Defense
Baku / 20.07.20 / Turan: The ADR movement called on the US Congress not to accept amendments to the Law on State Defense, which will be discussed on Monday.
The appeal says: “Armenia, with the military and political support of Russia, has been holding Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 adjacent regions, which are the primordial and eternal land of Azerbaijan, under occupation for 27 years and does not comply with UN Security Council Resolutions No. 822, 853, 874 and 884 on immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of all occupation forces from the territory of Azerbaijan. It continues to encroach on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. As a result of the occupation of the territories, up to 1 million internally displaced persons in Azerbaijan have been in exile for more than 30 years and are waiting with bitterness to return to the abandoned territories.
As a result of shelling, which lasted from 1994 (when a relative ceasefire was established - ed.) to the present, dozens of innocent people have died. In 2017, 2-year-old Zahra was killed by an artillery shell, and her family members were injured.
The attacks, organized by Armenia with the support of Russian military and political forces, have created a serious threat to oil and gas pipelines in the western direction. Thus, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, the Western export oil pipeline, the South Caucasus gas pipeline and the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline pass through the territory of the Tovuz region, on whose borders the Armenian-Russian military units rule. The gas pipeline provides for the export of gas to Turkey, from there through TANAP and TAP to southern Europe, and this fall, primary gas will be supplied to Europe. The volume of gas to be supplied to Europe will amount to 16 billion cubic meters per year, in 2023 - 23 billion cubic meters, and in 2026 it will increase to 31 billion cubic meters. If an amendment is made to the law "On State Protection", serious problems will arise with ensuring energy security of Europe, and the Western energy market will become even more dependent on Russia.
Therefore, the ADR movement urged members of Congress not to succumb to the Armenian-Russian lies and not to vote for the amendment to the "Law on State Defense", given that it will serve to strengthen Russia's position in the region”. —0—

When peace is an established fact, the existence of such a format may raise questions," Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a press conference today. "The whole question is about the timing, we need to understand how effectively and correctly to turn such topics into a subject of discussion right now," the Armenian Prime Minister added.

On August 31, Azerbaijan observes a "day of silence" before the Sunday’s early parliamentary elections for the unicameral Milli Majlis. All electoral campaigning is prohibited 24 hours before the voting. The early elections were initiated by the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party. This decision was motivated by the overlap of the scheduled elections in November with the global UN forum - the COP20 climate conference taking place in Baku.

On August 30, at approximately 22:55, the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant in Metsamor was disconnected from the country's power grid, as reported by the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. The shutdown was caused by a lightning strike, which triggered the plant's safety systems to switch the station to a safe shutdown mode. Currently, the plant's staff is working on restarting the facility.
