Ambassador of Greece Summoned to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan

The Greek Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dimitrios Tsungas was called to the Foreign Ministry today in connection with the visit of Karen Mirzoyan, the so-called Foreign Minister of the separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh, to Greece.

According to the statement of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev, the Azerbaijani side told the Greek Ambassador that this visit contradicts the Memorandum of 2014 between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, which affirms the commitment to sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.

The Ambassador was also advised to warn his citizens about the illegality of visiting the occupied Azerbaijani territories, which entails legal responsibility.

The Greek Ambassador noted that Greece supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, and promised to bring the discontent of Baku to the officials of his country.

According to Hajiyev, it is regrettable that the European Union's ban on visits of representatives of separatist regimes is selectively applied by some of the EU members.

Mirzoyan and other representatives of the separatists make foreign trips with diplomatic passports of Armenia. Such provocative visits encourage separatists and damage the peace process, Hajiyev said. -02D-
