Baku/23.01.22/Turan: Armenian President Armen Sarkissian resigned on January 23. He attributed his decision to the lack of tools to influence domestic and foreign policy.
"We have a paradoxical situation where the president has to be the guarantor of statehood," Sargsyan wrote in his statement.
Today in Armenia, the president "cannot influence issues of war or peace", cannot "veto laws that he considers inappropriate," - RIA Agency quotes Sargsyan.
According to him, the decision to resign is not emotional, but follows a certain logic. Armenia is a parliamentary republic in form, but not in content.
He expressed hope for constitutional changes that would allow the president to work in a more balanced, coordinated atmosphere.
It should be noted that Sargsyan was constantly subjected to sharp criticism, he was considered a mediocre and helpless politician.
The opposition accused him of working for external forces.
According to the Armenian Constitution, until the election of a new president, the duties of the head of state are the chairman of the parliament.-02D-
