Arrest term for PFPA activist Jabbar Savalan reduced by 5 days
The Sumgait Court of Appeal on March 13 reduced the administrative punishment for the youth activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA ) Jabbar Savalan. The arrest term for Savalan was reduced from 20 to 15 days.
However, the Baku Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal by another PFPA activist Bahruz Hasanli and upheld the decision to arrest Hasanli for 20 days. Turan was told by the deputy chairman of PFPA Gozal Bayramli . According to her, the consideration of Hasanli's complaints was formal and the appellate court, in deciding, conferred only 1 minute.
Hasanli and Savalan and were arrested for 20 days on charges of not obeying the police on 27 February and 1 March.
However, according to PFPA, Savalan, Hasanli and other PFPA activists administratively arrested in late February - early March, Tazakhan Miralamli, Ilham Huseyn, Aghaverdi Rushanov and Turkel Alisoy, are persecuted for political reasons for taking part in the march on February 26 after the visit to the memorial of the victims of the Khojaly genocide.
According to Bayramly, in the coming days appeals of 4 other activists will be considered. They were arrested in late February - early March.
