Nasimi District Court of Baku on June 4 chose measure - arrest for a period of 2 months in respect of a prominent lawyer Gurban Mammadov. He is charged under Article 263.1 (violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles negligently causing bodily harm of the victim) of the Criminal Code.
Turan was told by the brother of the accused, leader of the Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu.
According to him, Mammadov is charged with an accident a year ago, when he drove back and accidentally knocked a parking lot employee. The latter broke his leg as a result of the accident and Mammadov paid all expenses for the medical treatment.
"However, after a year the victim and the witnesses were pressured and they testified against Gurban Mammadov," said Jalaloghlu.
According to him, Mammadov was arrested for political reasons. In his view, certain forces in power knowingly take the aggravation of relations between the government and civil society and the opposition to destabilize the country and to allow the intervention of external forces, and in particular Russia.
According to Jalaloghlu, there was no need to arrest Mammadov.
If he wanted to hide from the consequences, he would have done it in the past year.
Jalaloghlu also drew attention to the fact that Mammadov recently lobbied for the creation of the National Council and was a candidate for the structure. -06D -
