Attorney General on "racketeering journalism"
Baku/28.07.22/Turan: Racketeering journalism is a criminal activity, stated the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev.
“Sometimes social media users, or members of the press, consider themselves fully trained lawyers and easily give opinions on some complex issues, put forward categorical statements. This is not acceptable,” Aliyev is quoted on the website of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
“It is unacceptable to make a categorical statement without knowing the content of the case, its subtleties, evidence, including the Terter case.
"In this area, we must prepare an action plan and implement them together with journalists, media outlets," Aliyev said.
Concerning the problem of racketeering in journalism, he noted that “This is a conditional term. In fact, the talk is about extortion through threats. Sometimes, this is done using journalistic activities. Sometimes users of social networks do this. This is called "extortion by threats" in the law. This is a purely criminal activity, not related to journalism, said the Prosecutor General. --16D--
