Azerbaijan sharply criticised Iranian authorities and evacuates Embassy from Tehran
Baku/27.01.23/Turan: Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has accused Iran of failing to ensure the security of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran and intends to evacuate its employees.
"We strongly condemn the treacherous terrorist act against the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Iranian side was obliged to ensure the safety of the Embassy and its staff under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The document says that "attempts to threaten the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Iran has been made previously, and Tehran was constantly raised the need to take measures to prevent such phenomena and ensure the safety of the Azerbaijani representation.
"The latest bloody terrorist attack demonstrates the lack of due attention to our urgent appeals.
We believe that the recent anti-Azerbaijani campaign against our country in Iran contributed to the attack on our diplomatic mission.
We strongly demand that those who committed the aforementioned terrorist act on the part of Iran, as well as those who ordered this bloody act, be identified immediately and punished in the most severe way.
The Azerbaijani side will use all opportunities of international mechanisms to identify the culprits and impose a dignified punishment," the statement said.
"Owing to the situation caused by the terrorist attack, measures are envisaged to evacuate the employees of the Embassy and their families," the statement said. -06В-
