Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran resumes its activity after year and half
Since 15 July 2024, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran has resumed its activities at a new address. The Ambassador and the current staff of the Embassy have returned to Tehran. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
"The Iranian side has taken appropriate measures to ensure the security of our Embassy in accordance with its obligation under the 'Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations'," the Foreign Ministry said.
The Embassy is located at 8 Shahrizad Avenue.
Recall that the entire staff of the Azerbaijani Embassy left Tehran after Iranian citizen Yasin Huseynzadeh, armed with an automatic rifle, broke into the Embassy and shot the guards on 27 January 2023. As a result, one Embassy staff member was killed and two wounded.
Baku regarded the incident as a terrorist act and demanded an appropriate assessment of the Iranian authorities. Not satisfied with the reaction of official Tehran, the Azerbaijani leadership decided to evacuate the Embassy.
There is still no official statement on the fate of the detained terrorist.
