Baku is happy with mandate to negotiate with Brussels
Azerbaijan welcomes the EU Council decision on the issue of the mandate to negotiate a comprehensive agreement with Azerbaijan, announced press secretary of the Foreign Ministry Hikmet Hajiyev, commenting on today's decision to grant such a mandate Federico Mogirini - High Commissioner for EU foreign and security policy. Baku has long insisted on the signing a separate agreement with the European Union, calling it a strategic partnership document.
Baku seeks to limit the availability of problems of political cooperation in the future agreement and shine to all trade. Brussels also comes from the fact that it is impossible, and the country must comply with the obligations assumed in the framework of the Eastern Partnership.
Commenting on these ambitions of the Azerbaijani authorities, an informed source in the EU told Turan agency that the agreement, which asks Azerbaijan, the EU does not have even with China.
Therefore, Brussels believe that the desire of Azerbaijan is hardly enforceable in the manner in which Baku wants it. -02D-

"The whole question is about the timing, we need to understand how effectively and correctly to turn such topics into a subject of discussion right now," the Armenian Prime Minister added.

On August 31, Azerbaijan observes a "day of silence" before the Sunday’s early parliamentary elections for the unicameral Milli Majlis. All electoral campaigning is prohibited 24 hours before the voting. The early elections were initiated by the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party. This decision was motivated by the overlap of the scheduled elections in November with the global UN forum - the COP20 climate conference taking place in Baku.
