Baku takes measures to return Azerbaijanis from Iraq - Mamedyarov
Baku / 06.04.18 / Turan: Official Baku is taking steps to return ethnic Azerbaijanis from Iraq to their homeland, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov told journalists on Friday. According to him, the Iraqi side promised its assistance in this matter, but nothing depends on Baku in this situation. "The Iraqi authorities must conduct an investigation and establish which terrorist group they belong to," he said. There are Azerbaijani children and women in Iraq. It is necessary to investigate and establish how they turned out to be there, who they have there and here, the minister said. "We have already sent a plenipotentiary delegation to Iraq, they are working on the spot," Mammadyarov said.
Previously a member of the Iraqi parliament Vian Dahil in his Twitter microblog wrote that local authorities detained about 200 Azerbaijani citizens on suspicion of having links with LIH. There are many women among them. Official Baku did not make any statements on this matter. However, representatives of law enforcement agencies have repeatedly stated that hundreds of Azerbaijani citizens are fighting in Iraq and Syria. -16D-
