Bayram Mammadov: This strengthens my principles even more
Baku/29.04.19/Turan: "Torture over me has become routine. I have come across this from 2016," stated the youth activist of the NIDA movement Bayram Mammadov in an interview with the Azerbaijani service of Voice of America on the completion of his 30-day administrative arrest today. However, he refrained from telling in detail about the torture he was subjected. "I don"t want to tell the public about what happened to me in front of the cameras. This is contrary to my principles. Today we are just starting to organize in a civil movement. Our political views are only being formed.
I believe that at such a moment it would be wrong to tell people about torture. Of course, some may argue that the truth must be told to the world community. But I am convinced that international organizations, Western diplomats know about events better than us," said Mammadov.
Referring the second anniversary of the death in the jail of the blogger Mehman Galandarov, Mammadov said that as long as the society remains silent to injustice, arbitrariness and lawlessness would be repeated. "We must be active, continue to fight for their political beliefs. Yes, there can be torture, arrests on this path, but this should not intimidate us. Today after the prison, I once again declare that I will continue the struggle. Yes, there may be torture, but it does not frighten me. This even more strengthens my principles," Mammadov said. -16 / 03B-
