CDSI reported losses of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces for 11 months of 2023
Baku/26.11.23/Turan: The irretrievable losses of the security and defense sector of Azerbaijan for 11 months of 2023 amounted to 258 people. At the same time, 212 people were killed in combat conditions, the remaining 46 losses were not combat, CDSI (Caspian Defense Studies Institute) reported on November 26.
According to the institute, 208 soldiers were killed by shots from the Armenian side, and another 4 were blown up by mines.
As for non-combat losses, 8 military personnel died in road accidents and other accidents, 9 died from various diseases, 2 became victims of non-statutory relationships, 2 were killed as a result of armed attacks, 1 died as a result of careless handling, 4 passed away due to accidents. Another 20 military personnel committed suicide.
126 of the deceased were servicemen of the Ministry of Defense, 9 - of the State Border Service, 3 - of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 17 - of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 1 - of the Directorate for the Protection of Strategic Facilities, 1 - of the Ministry of Justice, 1 - of the Directorate of Paramilitary Security of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
132 of the security forces who lost their lives were soldiers, 50 were officers, 44 were long-term servicemen, 26 were warrant officers, 3 were cadets. The institute was unable to establish the ranks of three more servicemen.
Most of the deaths occurred during local anti-terrorist measures in Karabakh in September. Also, deaths occurred on the border with Armenia - Kelbajar, Zangilan, Gubadli regions, as well as the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic
The number of wounded and maimed military personnel over 11 months was 536, the CDSI report concludes.
Caspian Defense Studies Institute as an analytical center began work in February 2015 in Germany. One of its founders was Jasur Sumerinli, who headed the Doctrine Center for Journalistic Military Research until his departure from Azerbaijan in September 2014. -06B-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.

On November 22, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed negotiations with Azerbaijan regarding a peace treaty in an interview with Public TV. In particular, he emphasized that society should move away from certain stereotypes. “We are outraged when we hear the term ‘Western Azerbaijan.’ But we don’t think that when we say ‘Western Armenia,’ it also irritates anyone,” he stated.
