Committee of Ministers of Council of Europe Once Again Demands Release of Ilgar Mammadov
8-9 December, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe held its meeting on human rights issues and considered the situation with the performance by the Member States of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.
As stated in the press release of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, the decision following the discussions expressed "deep regret" that the Azerbaijani authorities still did not release Ilgar Mammadov, despite the decisions of the European Court and numerous appeals to the leadership of Azerbaijan.
The decision reiterates the demand for "immediate" release of Ilgar Mamedov and to abandon attempts to circumvent the execution of the decision of the European Court.
* The leader of the movement REAL Ilgar Mammadov was sentenced to 7 years on trumped up charges of organizing riots in Ismayilli in January 2013. The deputy chairman of the party Musavat Tofig Yagublu was convicted with him.
In May 2014 the European Court ruled Ilgar Mammadov’s arrest unjustified, urging his release.
Later a similar decision was made in respect of Tofig Yagublu. -02D-
