Cooperation between the special forces of Azerbaijan and NATO
Baku/03.07.19/Turan:At a meeting held on July 3 Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Najmeddin Sadykov and the delegation led by Allied Special Operations Headquarters Commander Admiral Colin Kilrain discussed the issues of development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, Sadykov noted steady cooperation between Azerbaijan and the North Atlantic Alliance for 25 years.
He recalled the consistent development of these relations, the participation of the Azerbaijani Army in the framework of various NATO programs and the contribution to the "Resolute Support" mission in Afghanistan.
Touching upon the military-political situation in the region, Sadykov stressed the importance of achieving a solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and based on the norms of international law.
Expressing satisfaction with his first visit to Azerbaijan, Vice Admiral Kilrein stressed that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the Alliance. He highly appreciated the participation of Azerbaijan in the fight against terrorism, the significant contribution to the provision of airspace for cargo transportation for peacekeeping operations, as well as the high professionalism of Azerbaijani peacekeepers in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the development of further cooperation between the special forces of Azerbaijan and NATO, and other issues of mutual interest.
Azerbaijan has been participating in NATO"s "Strong Support" operation in Afghanistan since 2002. Currently, 122 Azerbaijani soldiers are constantly participating in the mission. -06D--

On January 15, the Tbilisi Court of Appeals rejected the appeal of Afghan Sadigov, the founder of the Azel TV website, who had protested his extradition to Azerbaijan. Sadigov’s wife, Sevinj Sadigova, stated that this was the final judicial instance in Georgia making a decision on the case, Turan reported. On the other hand, lawyer Mariam Kvelashvili informed Turan that the defense would continue legal steps to prevent the extradition of Afghan Sadigov. According to his wife, Afghan has been on hunger strike for 117 days, and his health is critical.

On January 15, the Yasamal District Court rejected the motion to change the detention measure for Azer Gasymly, the director of the Institute of Political Management, his lawyer, Agyl Laidj, to Turan. "Azer Gasymly stated during the trial that the charges against him were fabricated and related to his socio-political activities," the lawyer said. An appeal will be filed against the court's decision.
