Court of Appeal Extends Arrest of Seymour Hazi and Nijat Nizamov for Another 15 Days
Baku / 29.10.19 / Turan: On October 29, the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) re-examined the case of the PFPA Deputy Chairman Seymour Hazi, who was arrested for 15 days.
Note that on October 28, the BCA dismissed his complaint of arrest. However, on October 29, BCA re-examined the case, now following a complaint from the head of the Khatai police, who demanded that the activist be sentenced to a tougher punishment. The court upheld the complaint of the police chief and increased the term of Hazi's arrest to 30 days.
Hazi himself called the court decision "political." He believes that the arrest was extended in order to prevent him from taking part in the opposition rally on November 2, for Hazi, according to the previous court decision was to be released on November 1.
Similarly, the BCA increased the period of arrest of the PFPA activist Nijat Nizamov from 15 to 30 days.
Both activists were arrested two days before the rally on October 19.
PFPA believes that the toughening of the punishment for the two activists aims to prevent their participation in the rally on November 2. –21С--
