Court of Appeal Upholds Detention of NIDA Activist
Baku Appellation Court today dismissed an appeal from Rashad Hasanov, activist with the NIDA Movement. He remains in custody. According to Hasanov’s lawyer, Asabali Mustafaev, Hasanov is still uncertain of the charges against him.
Hasanov was arrested on March 14 on charges of illegal possession of explosives. On May 30 the Nasimi court extended his detention for another three months. Hasanov is one of seven activists of NIDA Movement who were arrested in March-April. All those arrested are recognized by Amnesty International as "prisoners of conscience." -16B06-

Tehran Abdullayev, an activist from the Surakhani District branch of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PNFA), has been placed in a detention facility for administrative offenders, his lawyer, Nemat Kerimli, reported after meeting with him on October 21. According to the lawyer, Abdullayev stated that he was detained for his political activities.
