Human Rights NGO Condemns Government for Pressure on Lawyers
The NGO "Enlightenment on Human Rights" led by human rights activist and lawyer Irada Cavadova made a statement condemning the arrest of Gurban Mammadov, a well-known lawyer and public figure, and physical pressure on the lawyer Aslan Ismailov.
Mamedov was arrested in connection with an accident nine months ago; his arrest is regarded as a political order. Also, for political reasons, physical pressure was exerted on Ismaylov in the Office to Combat Organized Crime of the Interior Ministry.
The NGO demands investigation of the physical pressure on Ismailov and punishment of the perpetrators, as well as the immediate release of Mamedov.—16D06--
