Decision on Ibrahimbekov"s Return to Azerbaijan to Come from National Council
The Chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan Rustam Ibrahimbekov should return to the country after the barriers are eliminated to register him as a candidate for the presidency. The decision was taken on Tuesday night at the meeting held in Tbilisi, chaired by Ibrahimbekov and with the participation of heads of commissions of NCDF and party leaders, members of this entity.
This was announced at a press briefing after the meeting by the head of the executive office of NCDF Eldar Namazov.
He noted that during the meeting they discussed the election situation in Azerbaijan, the NCDF tasks, the preparation for the election, and the problems artificially created for the single presidential candidate from NCDF, Ibrahimbekov.
It was found necessary to speed up the process of abolishing the Russian citizenship of Ibrahimbekov.
Due to the fact that the Russian law requires personal involvement of an applicant in refusing of the Russian citizenship, it was considered unwise to return Ibrahimbekov to Baku on July 31.
At the same time, they considered appropriate for Ibrahimbekov to return to Azerbaijan by an NCDF decision.
There was an exchange of views on the necessary steps to register Ibrahimbekov at the Central Election Commission.
It was also recommended to create the Advisory Council under the NCDF Chairman with the participation of heads of commissions, representatives of political parties, heads of departments and NCDF campaign headquarters.
It was also decided to appeal to President Vladimir Putin to accelerate the termination of the Russian citizenship of Ibrahimbekov.
In addition, it was decided to urge the EU to increase efforts to obtain from the Government of Azerbaijan guarantees of the democratic conduct of the presidential elections.
Along with this, it was decided to apply to the U.S. Congress and State Department to facilitate free and fair elections in Azerbaijan and to provide the participation of Ibrahimbekov as a single candidate from NCDF in them.
They also recognized the need to strengthen the work of NCDF. -06D -
