Democratic Society Indignant with Believers Arrests
The incident at the trial in the case of theologian Thale Bagirzade and arrests of believers was a planned provocation aimed at distracting the local and international community of the presidential election falsification, as said by participants of a round table in the office of IRFS, organized by the Committee to Protect the rights of Islamists. Representatives of political parties, human rights organizations and public figures attended the event.
Participants noted that on October 28 during Bagirzade’s trial at Sabunchu court 36 people were detained and four arrested.
"To distract the attention of people, the authorities provoke conflicts. Society must unite and fight together against violations of fundamental freedoms," said the deputy chairman of the Popular Front Party, Nureddin Mammadli .
In his view, authorities want to make horror of the Islamists to demonstrate them to Europe. One of the detainees Nijat Imranly said detainees were beaten and tortured in front of Sabunchi court.
"We have heard their groans. Abbas was beaten so badly that he could not breathe. Then he was given medication and water. He did not smoke, and he was charged with possession and use of drugs," said Imranly.
Head of the Centre to Protect Freedom of Conscience and Religion (DEVAMM), Ilgar Ibrahimoglu, was surprised by the reaction of society. "Society, political leaders, NGOs should express their attitude to this person and should be involved in human rights activities," said Ibrahimogli.
"All prisoners of hijab must be released, the country must unconditionally lift the ban on the hijab," said Ibrahimogli. "We strongly condemn the massive violation of human rights. We live here under a godless , lawless, immoral regime," said the former deputy prime minister Panah Huseyn .
The next meeting of the Committee to Protect the Rights of the Islamists will take place in a broader format. -03C06-
