Deputy Ali Aliyev was received at the U.S. Embassy
Baku/28.06.22/Turan: First Deputy Chairman of the Citizens and Development Party (CDP) Jahan Aliyeva met with US Embassy political affairs advisor Jeremy Brenner.
According to the CDP report, the meeting at the U.S. Embassy focused on the case of CDP leader Ali Aliyev who has three times been sentenced to imprisonment for slander for a total period of 12 months since the beginning of 2022.
According to J. Aliyeva, pressure on the party leader began long before his arrest. His rights were grossly violated in the presidential and parliamentary elections; however, a decision of the ECHR on violation of Aliyev's rights in the 2015 parliamentary elections has not been executed by the authorities.
The meeting included an exchange of views on the above issues, the report said.
*On January 13 this year, Aliyev was sentenced to five months of imprisonment on libel charges (Article 147.1 of the Criminal Code) based on a complaint by Emil Jafarov, an officer of the State Border Service (SBS).
On April 15, the court renewed his sentence by one month complying with a suit against Aliyev by another State Border Guard Service officer, Ramin Adilov.
On June 23, the Binagadi district court sentenced Aliyev to another 6 months of imprisonment on the basis of a complaint by Ramiz Geyushov, former chairman of the Binagadi branch of the Yeni Azerbaijan Party.
The court found Aliyev guilty under Article 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code for an interview on the "Boomerang Media" YouTube channel. -05D-
