Deputy of the Bundestag Does Not Know about Situation in Azerbaijan, but Is in Good Faith
Sport should never turn into a political instrument, a Bundestag deputy Andre Han told the media in Baku, commenting on the recent hearing in the German Parliament on the situation of human rights in Azerbaijan.
"Yes, we talked about specific issues, freedom of the press and expression," he said. However, the left-wing faction Han belongs to did not participate in the vote.
Certain paragraphs of the resolution also caused Han’s disagreement. According to him, the faction of the Greens also did not participate in the vote. He expressed "regret" that the resolution was adopted on the opening day of the European Games.
On the question of Turan, how he assesses the situation in Azerbaijan in the field of human rights, the MP said: "I do not have full information about the situation with human rights in Azerbaijan. I cannot give a definite answer, but I know the position of the German Foreign Ministry and the views expressed in our Parliament. I often hear critical views about human rights in your country - on the limitation of freedom of opinion, the absence of dialogue between the government and the opposition. But I have always said that we should not only talk about negative aspects, but also remember the positive," said the deputy. -16D-
