Did the Russian co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group bring new proposals to Yerevan?

Baku/14.11.22/Turan: On November 14, the Russian co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Igor Khovaev held a meeting in Yerevan with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

As stated in the message of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed issues related to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

The interlocutors touched upon the last trilateral meeting of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan, held on October 31 in Sochi, and the adopted joint statement.

Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of refraining from the use of force or the threat of force. He accused Azerbaijan of "aggressive behavior and maximalist aspirations, which hinder the establishment of a stable and long-term peace in the region."

Mirzoyan and Khovaev also exchanged views on the process of delimiting the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and unblocking the transport infrastructure in the region”.

On the same day, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also received Khovaev. During the meeting, Pashinyan stated that Armenia supports Russia's proposals presented in August, which can become the basis for further negotiations to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The further program of Khovaev's visit is not reported. It is also not clear whether he will visit Baku as well.

Earlier, the Armenian side stated that it was Khovaev who prepared the so-called “Russian version” of the settlement. Its fundamental point was the point that the parties make peace, postponing for the future the solution of the issue of the status of Karabakh.

With what Khovaev came to the region this time is not yet clear. Judging by the official statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the emphasis is on preventing another aggravation of the situation while Baku and Yerevan accuse each other of disrupting the agreements reached earlier. -02B-
