The project "Distance" suspended after the arrest of human rights activist Rasul Jafarov has been restored together with the photographer and journalist Jahangir Yusif. "This project provides a cycle of photo-reports on political prisoners in Azerbaijan and about the difficulties their families faced," said Yusif.
According to him, "Distance" reflects the struggle between authoritarianism and free, civil society. "The project reflects the problems of people who in the fight for the ideals of freedom did not refuse their political identity and civic responsibility," said Yusif. The project was conceived in the framework of the advocacy campaign Art for democracy headed by Rasul Jafarov. However, work was suspended after the arrest of Jafarov in August, 2014. Immediately after the release of Jafarov, the project was resumed in spring this year.
"In the spring of 2016 we resumed work. Shooting and other works completed in October," said Yusif. Presentation of the project to the public on-line took place on December 10th - the International Day of Human Rights. -06D-
