ECHR announced a decision in the case of Malahat and Ilgar Nasibovs
Baku/30.07.20/Turan: The European Court of Human Rights announced on July 30 a decision on the complaint of journalist Malahat Nasibova.
A journalist who emigrated from Azerbaijan complained of pressure for her professional activities as co-chairman of the Resource Center for Development and Democracy NGO. The complaint was sent to the ECHR 11 years ago, in 2009.
The case is connected with a search and confiscation in 2008 in the office of the "Resource Center in Nakhchivan" and at Nasibova's apartment. Another co-chair of the said NGO, Nasibova's husband Ilgar Nasibov, was accused of slander and insult.
Nasibova filed a lawsuit against law enforcement agencies, claiming that the search was illegal. Local courts dismissed the journalist's complaints in this case.
According to the ECHR, during the consideration of the case in the Strasbourg court, Malahat and Ilgar Nasibovs agreed to an amicable agreement with the Azerbaijani government.
Considering this, the ECHR ruled to exclude Nasibov's statement from the list of pending cases. According to the decision of the Strasbourg court, the Azerbaijani government will pay Nasibova 5,500 euros, and her husband Ilgar Nasibov - 11,600 euros.
During communication on the case, the ECHR requested answers to the questions: were there any violations of Articles 6 (fair trial), Article 8 (respect for private life), 10 (freedom of expression) and 13 (right to an effective remedy) European Convention on Human Rights. –16V-
