ECHR satisfies complaints of Azerbaijani opposition activists
On November 16, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) announced decisions on the cases of 9 applicants from Azerbaijan, reports https://aihmaz.org.
In the case "Yashar Kerimov and Others v. Azerbaijan", five applicants complained about unlawful measures taken against them during anti-government demonstrations and unfair administrative proceedings before the courts.
They alleged a violation of their rights guaranteed by Articles 11 (freedom of association) and 6 (right to a fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
In the course of the ECtHR communication, the government and the applicants reached a settlement agreement.
The government will compensate Yashar Kerimov, Elnur Guliyev, Emin Farhadov and Babek Muradov each EUR 3,700 for moral damages and EUR 450 each for reimbursement of court costs.
Another applicant, Sarvan Djumayev, will receive EUR 2,500 and EUR 350 respectively.
In the case of "Zulfiya Hasanova and Others v. Azerbaijan", the violations of property rights and effective legal defence were challenged.
However, the applications of Zulfiya Najafova, Chingiz Mursalov, Nazim Musayev and Ruslan Rustam were excluded from the list of pending cases because the applicants themselves had not responded to the Strasbourg Court's letters.
