Embassy of the United States called on the authorities to release the activists and journalists
The U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan expressed satisfaction with the pardon of the former economic development minister Farhad Aliyev and his brother, a businessman, Rafig Aliyev.
However, the embassy has expressed the hope that the authorities "will create a wider political space" and will release more activists and journalists.
According to human rights organizations, there are some 140 political prisoners in Azerbaijan. -16D06-
