Riga / 14.11.19 / Turan: On Thursday, the Eastern Partnership Media Conference 2019: Business and Sustainability organized by the European Commission started in Riga.
The event was organized jointly with the European External Relations Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. The conference is held as part of the events dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership Program. The event is attended by over 100 participants from EU partner countries.
The aim of the conference is to discuss the prospects for achieving financial sustainability of independent professional journalism in the countries of the Eastern Partnership amid a variety of media organizations and the media and the ever-changing business environment in these countries. Particular attention will be paid to the exchange of best practices in the region, as well as ways to maximize the effectiveness of international support for cooperation and the media.
The conference organizers believe that today, media representatives should demonstrate creativity and technological know-how to create and retain an audience. At the same time, experts note the easy and free availability of misinformation. The conference organizers are sure that it is in these conditions that it is extremely important to study the needs of independent media.
“The extensive exchange of best practices between professionals from all over the region is an important step towards finding solutions. Therefore, it is important for international donors to carefully listen to the successful experience of various media from the Eastern Partnership countries,” the conference organizers say.
Following the conference, a number of specific recommendations will be developed for media representatives in the region and international donors. –71D-
