EU Supports Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of Azerbaijan - Tusk
Baku / 09.07.19 / Turan: The topic of today's talks with EU President Donald Tusk was the issues of expanding cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan, the future partnership agreement and the Karabakh conflict. This was stated by President Ilham Aliyev at a joint briefing on the results of talks with Tusk.
Among economic issues, he highlighted the implementation of energy and transport projects aimed at the energy security of Europe, as well as the creation of East-West and North-South transport corridors.
Azerbaijan is ready to implement all these projects and invites Europe to invest in them, Aliyev said.
The unresolved Karabakh conflict seriously affects the development of the entire region of the South Caucasus and international structures should intensify efforts to resolve it, taking into account the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Aliyev said.
In turn, Donald Tusk said the European Union recognizes the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. He called for a peaceful solution to the conflict based on international principles.
"During the conversation with President Aliyev, we discussed these issues, as well as the need to respect the rule of law and human rights in Azerbaijan," he said.
In conclusion, Tusk said that he would visit the new seaport of Baku and the Gobustan nature reserve today. -02B-
