EU Wants to Intensify Participation of Civil Society in Karabakh Settlement
Baku / 09.11.18 / Turan: EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Conflicts in Georgia Toivo Klaar met with a group of civil society activists of Azerbaijan.
The meeting was attended by the head of the Society for the Protection of Women's Rights Novella Jafaroglu, the chairman of the Azerbaijan National Committee of the Helsinki Civil Assembly Arzu Abdullayeva, the chairman of the Society for Humanitarian Studies Avaz Hasanov and the consultant of the International Crisis Group Zaur Shiriyev.
As Avaz Hasanov told Turan, during the meeting, the role of Dushanbe"s meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in resolving the Karabakh conflict was discussed.
In addition, the question was raised about the current plight of Azerbaijani NGOs and their inability to implement grant projects in the search for solutions to the Karabakh conflict.
During the meeting, it was noted that the European Union is discussing with the authorities and civil society the possibility of implementing a three-year project for the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
"During the meeting, it was also noted that in the course of the EU project already implemented in 2015-18, certain resources were created. However, the current difficult situation of civil society in Azerbaijan does not allow bringing these resources to the audience," Hasanov said. -16D-
