Extended period of detention Tofig Yagublu
Today, Nasimi district court extended for another three months the arrest of the deputy chairman of the party Musavat and columnist of the newspaper, Yeni Musavat Tofig Yagublu, accused of participation in the Ismayilli events. Turan was told by Yagublu’s lawyer, Nemat Karimli.
The investigation motivated the extension of the arrest with the "complexity of the criminal case." Yagublu protested, reiterating that he has no relation to the unrest in Ismayilli and was arrested for political reasons. However, Yagublu said he was not intimidated and he will continue to fight until the end.
Recall that Yagublu, and the head of the movement REAL, Ilgar Mamedov, were arrested on February 4, and charged with organizing riots in Ismayilli on 23-24 January.
Initially, they were charged under Article 233 (organization of public disorder) and 315.2 (resisting the police). Subsequently, Article 233 has been replaced by a more severe one -220.1 (organization of mass disorders).
Amnesty International has recognized both as "prisoners of conscience." -16D06-
