Chohraganli applied for a visa to come to Baku
One of the leaders of the national liberation movement of South Azerbaijan, Mahmudali Chohraganli, is preparing to visit Azerbaijan.
In an interview with the radio "Voice of America", he said that he had asked for a visa at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Washington, but has not yet received a response.
Chohraganli said that in June 2006, during his last visit to Baku he was detained by the police just five hours after arriving in the city. After that, he was deported from Azerbaijan without explanation.
Chohraganli suggests that this was done at the request of Iran.
Speaking about the purpose of the visit to Azerbaijan, Chohraganli noted that he needs moral support. "I want to see the Azerbaijani people to hear it and be inspired," said Chohraganli.
He also said that he would like to meet with government officials, opposition and NGO representatives to discuss the issue of South Azerbaijan.
Mahmudali Chohraganli was forced to leave Iran in 2002, after a lot of attacks and harassment by the authorities. -03D04-
