Film Makers Union of Russia: Hands off Rustam Ibrahimbayov!
The Union of Cinematographers of Russia, and professional cinematography associations issued a statement which said: "From media reports, including Azerbaijan, we have learned that the Azerbaijani authorities have banned local television to show film by a script written by Rustam Ibragimbayov.
The "black list" included such famous tapes as "Birthday", "White Sun of the Desert," "In a Southern City", "Interrogation", "Park". We do not understand what is the guilt of Ibrahimbayov’s movies (some of them were made 40-50 years ago)? And it is not clear what is the guilt of the audience of Azerbaijan, they are denied the opportunity to watch the work of outstanding master of national, Russian and world cinema?
According to our information, the tapes of the famous screenwriter, playwright and film director, People's Writer of Azerbaijan, the winner of the award "Oscar", a member of the European Academy of "Felix" fell out of favor after he was nominated as a candidate for president of the opposition alliance, the National Council of Democratic Forces. In parallel, a lawsuit was filed against Ibrahimbayov under the pretext, allegedly incomplete tax the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan, which is headed by Rustam Ibrahimbayov for many years.
We believe that these rough, clumsy actions is the arbitrariness of the authorities in relation to the most famous figures of Azerbaijani culture, the desire to save the current president of Azerbaijan from a serious rival during the upcoming presidential elections in the autumn.
We intend to continue to provide moral support to our colleague and friend, and if necessary, reserve the right to appeal to the international film community," reads the statement. -16D-
