Former diplomat Emin Ibrahimov continues for the 11th day his hunger strike in jail
Former diplomat Emin Ibrahimov, who is being held in the Shuvelan pre-trial detention center-3, has been on hunger strike for 11 days and intends to continue the action until the end, one of Ibragimov's family members told Turan after a telephone conversation with him on August 3.
According to the same source, Ibrahimov is being held in solitary confinement, his condition is sluggish, his voice sounded weak. The Prison Service could not be reached for comment.
Recall that Emin Ibrahimov was detained on July 22. He was charged under Articles 126.2.4 (intentional infliction of serious harm to health from hooligan motives) and 221 (hooliganism) The Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. According to these Articles, he faces up to 11 years in prison. On July 24, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest against him. In protest, Ibrahimov went on a hunger strike. He denied these accusations and linked the initiation of a criminal case against him to criticism of the authorities.
Emin Ibrahimov served in the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry in the past. In 2012-2016, he was the second secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States, in 2016-2020 - Charge d'affaires of Azerbaijan in Uruguay. Later, he resigned from the diplomatic service, expressing disagreement with the government's policy, and criticized the Azerbaijani authorities on social networks.
