Former general of Ministry of National Security will be convicted to 14 years
Baku/26.07.22/Turan: On Tuesday, the state prosecutor made a closing speech at the Baku Court for Serious Crimes at the trial of former high-ranking officers of the abolished Ministry of National Security (MNS).
He proposed to sentence the former head of the investigation department of the Ministry of National Security Movlam Shikhaliyev to 14 years, and other defendants: Yasin Mammadov – to 12, Vusal Alekperov – to 11, Sahib Alekperov – to 10 years of imprisonment.
The prosecutor also asked the court to confiscate Shikhaliyev's property totally worth 9 million manats.
These are apartments and villas in the Sabail and Binagadi districts of the capital worth 2 million 600.000 manats, as well as apartments, houses and apartments in the name of his wife worth 3 million 207.000 manats in the town of Agdash, Binagadi, Nasiminksom, Sabail and Narimanov districts of the capital.
Besides, it is real estate in the name of Shikhaliev's son and daughter in the Binagadi and Sabail districts of the capital worth 3 million 288.000 manats.
After the prosecutor's speech, the lawyers asked for time to prepare a closing speech. The next court hearing is scheduled for August 30.
According to the materials of the criminal case, in 2008-2014, former head of the investigation department of the Ministry of National Security Movlam Shikhaliyev, former head of the investigation department of the same Ministry Vusal Alekperov, former deputy head of the preliminary investigation department Yasin Mammadov, former deputy head of the department Sahib Alekperov in an organized form by threats misappropriated the property of the defendants and extorted bribes on a particularly large scale.
These officers are accused of taking bribes in the amount of 14 million 292.000 manats and embezzlement of property in the amount of 5 million 77.000 manats.
Shikhaliyev was charged under Articles 182.3.1, 182.3.2 (extortion by an organized group in order to acquire property on a large scale), 294.3 (falsification of evidence), 311.3.1 (taking a bribe by an organized group).-0-
