General Volkov: The wrong toponyms are used by the Ministry of Defense of Russia
Baku/03.12.22T/Turan: Russian peacekeepers use Azerbaijani toponyms, but the Ministry of Defense of Russia does not publish them. Major General Andrey Volkov, commander of the Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh, said that to the representatives of the state bodies of Azerbaijan on Saturday in Shusha city.
"We respect Azerbaijani toponyms. We write all toponyms with the names sent to us by the Azerbaijani side, but, unfortunately, these names are not adhered to on the website of the Ministry of Defense of Russia. There they use toponyms that exist on the maps of the General Staff of the Soviet period. I can't answer for them. We specify all toponyms correctly and transfer them, including to the joint Russian-Turkish monitoring center. You can check it," he added.
In turn, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan once again urged the Russian side to use Azerbaijani and not Armenian toponyms in its messages from Karabakh.
"It is regrettable that despite our repeated appeals, in the official information of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation, the Azerbaijani territories are still designated by fictional Armenian toponyms", - said in the message of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan dated December 3. -02D-
